Shadow Fund

ShadowFlorida Keeshond Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of the Keeshond breed of dog.  Florida Keeshond Rescue developed the Shadow Fund and The Hope for Dogs Fund to address the needs of rescued, purebred Keeshond.  The Shadow Fund provides assistance for Keeshonden in foster care while the Hope For Dogs Fund provides assistance for adopted rescued Keeshonden.  In combination, the two funds attempt to provide rescued, purebred Keeshonden with the care they need from the day of their rescue and throughout the course of their life.

Florida Keeshond Rescue received a telephone call about a Keeshond who was about to be put to sleep because his human moved and left the “old dog” behind.  Shadow was an 11 year old male Keeshond.  He had great difficulty walking due to severe arthritis.  He was underweight and had lost his will to live. Shortly after his arrival, we learned that Shadow experienced seizure-like episodes.  Later we discovered that Shadow’s issues were caused by an inoperable brain tumor.  Shadow became one of our life-term and much loved foster dogs. Shadow was our inspiration for the development of the Shadow Fund and fittingly he became our poster boy for Florida Keeshond Rescue’s long-term care program named “The Shadow Fund.”  Specialty treatments allowed him to move freely.  Shadow loved to be included in family activities.   On long walks he tired easily so we bought him a stroller and he was able to be included on outings even when he was too tired to walk. Shadow was June’s constant shadow and acted  as if he had always been with us. June affectionately referred to Shadow as the champion of her heart. We enjoyed six months with Shadow as part of our Florida Keeshond Rescue Family.  Shadow was an amazing Keeshond.

Florida Keeshond Rescue’s Shadow Fund was developed to meet the needs of rescued, purebred Keeshonden who are seniors (9 years or older) or who have special needs and who are in foster care.   The Shadow Fund has been established to help provide for the needs of such dogs; including but not limited to: veterinary care, specialty treatments, medications, equipment, and other expenses on a case-by-case basis.
