Hope For Dogs Florida Keeshond Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of the Keeshond breed of dog. Florida Keeshond Rescue developed The Shadow Fund and The Hope for Dogs Fund to address the needs of rescued, purebred Keeshond. The Shadow Fund provides assistance for Keeshonden in foster care while the Hope For Dogs Fund provides assistance for adopted rescued Keeshonden. In combination, the two funds attempt to provide rescued, purebred Keeshonden with the care they need from the day of their rescue and throughout the course of their life. The Hope For Dogs Fund is named in honor of a former puppy mill dog rescued by Florida Keeshond Rescue. At the time of her rescue, she was a senior and a breeder-dog, used solely to produce puppies to be sold for profit. She was physically and emotionally spent. She was not properly socialized and did not have a name. As we and our vets worked to earn her trust and restore her body and spirit, we began to have hope that this old and worn out dog would not only survive but go on to enjoy a quality of life she’d never known. Therefore, we thought it appropriate to give her the name “Hope.” Hope survived the horrors of puppy mill existence, received the veterinary care she needed, learned to trust humans, began to thrive and was adopted by a wonderful and loving family. Sadly, a year later, Hope was diagnosed with melanoma. The costs associated with her care and treatments quickly soared. After her initial prognosis of 3 months was pronounced, Hope continued to amaze everyone with her determination, courage and gentle spirit. Through surgeries, medications and treatments, Hope’s will to live was an inspiration to all of us. Sadly, Hope lost her battle with cancer on September 23, 2010. Through the Hope for Dogs Fund, this former puppy mill dog’s legacy will live on and truly bring hope to others. Florida Keeshond Rescue’s Hope For Dogs Fund was developed to meet the needs of and adopted purebred Keeshonden who have special needs. The Hope For Dogs Fund has been established to help provide for the needs of such dogs; including but not limited to: veterinary care, specialty treatments, medications, equipment, and other expenses on a case-by-case basis.
